Kalunga comes from the Democratic Republic of the Congo and belongs to the Kongo tradition. As a nganga, her understanding of healing, protection, ancestors and the spiritual world developed far from the European occult systems familiar to many of the other characters.
She is thoughtful, practical and difficult to impress with grand theories simply because they happen to be old. Kalunga listens carefully before reaching conclusions and brings a perspective that frequently challenges the assumption that everybody witnessing the same supernatural phenomenon must therefore understand it in the same way.
She tends to speak only when she has something worth saying, which already makes her unusual company in Anrun.
